Additional Information | This issue opens with 27 questions/points on what it means that “Jesus was born”, addressing topics on Christmas Tide, Advent, Christmas Day, the Saints days after Christmas, New Year, Epiphany and afterwards. There is a story, followed by reports of staff / personnel (changes?) from missions in Shields, Westover, and White River, South Dakota. There is a report then from Washington D.C., on monetary funds that exist for different tribes and how much. The tribes listed are: Haratonwan (Ojibway), Hewa (Hidatsa), Standing Rock (Lakota/Dakota), Cheynne River (Lakota), Crow Creek (Dakota), Lower Brule (Lakota), Pine Ridge (Lakota), Rosebud (Lakota), Sisseton (Dakota), Yankton (Dakota), Kangitoka (Crow, Montana), Flathead (Montana), Tongue River Northern Cheyenne (Montana). After a few letters and news items, there is a “Supplement”, reporting on Thanksgiving Day in Washington D.C. Also, Pan-American mass on Thanksgiving Day. The report on this event is both in English and in Dakota. At bottom of page there is news item: report of flooding in Dallas, Texas on 4th of December (1913), where 27 people died, and on the last page there is a report of a restaurant fire in Boston, Mass. (also on 4 December). The issue closes with another (shorter) list of funding from Washington D.C. [Language note: Orthography has changed slightly, using “r” letter for guttural sounds in Dakota and Lakota.] |
