Additional Information | The newspaper article documents a long conversation that happened between the author and two French teachers in Hawaiʻi. The author, who I presume is Limaikaika, refers to the Frenchmen/women as "Makale ma". More research is needed to understand the meaning of Makale. Six topics are discussed in the paper – 1) Children, schools, and the rules and policies that govern education, 2) the worshipping of Maria, 3) concerning church mass, 4) the celibacy of church priests, 5) the history and work of the French people in Hawaiʻi from 1839, and 6) Makela folks failed attempt to convert the author to side with the Pope. |
