What is Indigenous Newspapers in North America?

Indigenous Newspapers in North America is a collection of newspapers, ranging from historic pressings to contemporary periodicals, which together explore nearly 200 years of Indigenous print journalism from the US and Canada.

Varying widely in publisher, audience and era, the newspapers offer a unique perspective on how events were reported by and for Indigenous communities, as well as giving access to a broad range of Indigenous political opinion and a wealth of information about reservation and urban community life, economic development, civil rights and environmental movements, activism and cultural identity.
